The exhibition COSI’ LONTANI, COSI’ VICINI. IL FASCINO DELL’ESOTISMO NEGLI INTERNI EUROPEI TRA ‘800 e ‘900 will open on Friday, October 6, 2023, at the Museo Stibbert in Florence, curated by Sabine du Crest and Enrico Colle.
The exhibition, organised and staged in collaboration with the Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia, was conceived by Sabine du Crest.

The exhibition aims to illustrate, through a large collection of photographs and a selection of oriental art objects collected by Frederick Stibbert, the fascination with exoticism in European interiors from the second half of the nineteenth century to the present day. A selection of images from great photographers offer us unprecedented glimpses into the interiors inhabited by artists, writers, diplomats and dandies, while others, from the Alinari Archive, offer a focus on Florence, because Florence played a special role in the European history of the relationship with otherness.

The exhibition saw the collaboration of institutions such as Université Bordeaux Montaigne, New York University Villa La Pietra, The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies Villa I Tatti and Institut Français of Florence, and the support of Enrico Frascione and Maxence Hulin, Cécile Meilhac Durand-Ruel and Agence photographique La Collection.

"Così lontani, così vicini" will be on view until May 5, 2024.
