From 18 June to 2 October 2022, Villa Bardini and Forte di Belvedere will host the exhibition FOTOGRAFE! Dagli Archivi Alinari a oggi (FOTOGRAFE! From the Alinari Archives to Today), curated by Emanuela Sesti and Walter Guadagnini.
The exhibition is presented and promoted by the Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia and the Fondazione CR Firenze, in collaboration with the Municipality of Florence.
The exhibition is an integral part of the summer cultural programme at Forte di Belvedere curated by Museo Novecento.
The curators Emanuela Sesti and Walter Guadagnini have conceived a new and ambitious exhibition project featuring female photographers of yesterday and today.
A rich exhibition featuring original works from the Alinari Archives by Julia Margaret Cameron, Dorothea Lange, Margaret Bourke-White, Lucia Moholy, Maria Mulas, Ketty La Rocca, Lisetta Carmi, Diane Arbus, Bettina Rheims, to name but a few, alongside the work of ten young Italian female artists: Eleonora Agostini, Arianna Arcara, Federica Belli, Marina Caneve, Francesca Catastini, Myriam Meloni, Giulia Parlato, Roselena Ramistella, Sofia Uslenghi, and Alba Zari, representatives of the youngest generation, born after 1980, who are making a name for themselves both nationally and internationally in recent years.
Thanks to Calliope Arts, a non-profit organisation based in Florence and London, founded to promote and safeguard women's cultural heritage through its Restoration Conversations project, the exhibition is enriched by two sections dedicated to two collections of the Alinari Archives: that of sisters Wanda Wulz (Trieste 1903-1984) and Marion Wulz (Trieste 1905-1990) and that of Edith Arnaldi (Vienna 1884-Rome 1978), best known as a writer and artist of the Futurist movement under the pseudonym Rosa Rosà.
During the opening, there will be talks with the artists featured in the exhibition, guided tours and workshops for children and families.
The exhibition saw the collaboration with MUS.E and with the Fondazione Parchi Monumentali Bardini e Peyron.
With the contribution of Unicoop Firenze.
