The Alinari Brothers at the Gypsotheca of Possagno - with Emanuela Sesti

Saturday, March 8, from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, the second appointment with photography will take place at the Gypsotheca Antonio Canova Museum in Possagno (TV): a valuable in-depth look at the Alinari collection, titled "The Alinari Brothers at the Gypsotheca of Possagno and the photography of sculpture", presented by Emanuela Sesti, scientific consultant of the Alinari Foundation.

Participation in the presentation is free. Limited seats and reservation recommended at the number 0423/544323, or by writing to posta@museocanova.it.

The Alinari photographic campaign in Possagno dates back to the late 19th century and early 20th century under the direction of Vittorio Alinari (1859-1932), son of the founder Leopoldo (1832-1865), who led the Florentine establishment of the Alinari Brothers from 1890. It is with Vittorio that the Alinari catalog will grow enormously across all Italian regions, particularly in Veneto, which will see the publication of two important catalogs in 1897 and 1906.

The creation of the photographic series at the Gypsotheca of Possagno by Alinari is unique for those years compared to the work of other Italian photographic establishments and demonstrates the Alinari's attention to sculpture, not only ancient, with particular regard to the great masters. An authorial reading of the sculpture that restores the experiential meaning of the work and its placement in the place that preserves it: the sculpture of Antonio Canova in Gypsotheca returned from Alinari's vision that translates its spirit within the dedicated environment, restoring its original conditions before the ruins of World War I (1917).

The project is supported by Strategy Photography 2024, promoted by the General Directorate of Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture. Realized in collaboration with the Alinari Foundation for Photography.
