From the peppers of to the peppers of Daniele Duca
Fruit, legumes and vegetables have always had the honour of being selected for photographic poses, as far back as daguerreotypes.
During the course of the 19th century these important foods, indispensable resources for mankind, were photographed predominantly in documentary and illustrative forms, splendid salted papers albumen therefore right up to first autochromes of the early 20th century.
These vegetables started to become the subject of experimental and artistic photog h dies around 1920s, with the wonderful photog Albert Renger- Patzsch. Then in the 1930s we fin ers of Weston, perhaps having intrigued the her with their amazing natural shapes that seem to have been interpreted by the lens in a specific form, as somewhat metaphysical extraordinary surrealist compositions.
This was where the adventures of the pepper began in photographic imagery, spanning several decades right up to the extraordinary compositions of Daniele Duca. A great challenge for a great vegetable, unique in its kind in the world.
The long-standing partnership between Alinari and Daniele Duca has led to the creation of extraordinary monographs which see in this volume yet further confirmation of the quality that associates the name of the photographer with that of our Company.
Daniele Duca was born in Ancona in 1967. For over thirty years he was involved in photography and advertising. It’s the sixth monograph for Alinari, after Extension (2008), Reverse Motion (2011), Proximity (2012) and Pasta, the photographic elegance of De Cecco’s Pasta shapes (2015) and I remember that (2016). In 2003 he won first prize at the 22nd International Biennial of Art Humour, Advertising section. In 2008 the Luigi Ghirri Gallery of Caltagirone added 12 of his works to its Collection. In 2010 he received the international Prize “The Marchigiani dell’Anno”, for distinguishing himself in the photographic art. He is a journalist and a father of two children.
