GBB-F-004449-0000 1900, ITALY : The celebrated painting tittled " BEETHOVEN ", artwork by celebrated italian painter LIONELLO BALESTRIERI (1872 - 1958). In this photo a german litographic duplicate by W. Leo Arndt from original design by Balestrieri, printing by Richard Bong, Berlin. The painting portrayed the famous violinist, writer and poet Giuseppe Vannicola (1876 - 1915) playng the Sonata of Kreutzer by Beethoven into the Balestrieri atelier in Paris, 1900, (Balestrieri himself is portraied seated on sofà, first from the left). With this big size and spectacular painting (202 x 420 cm.) in 1900 Balestrieri reached stardom by winning the Gold Medal at the Paris Exposition, the following year he exhibited the painting at the Venice Biennale IV, where he obtained an extraordinary success. On this occasion it was bought by the museum Revoltella, Trieste, where this artwork still is exposed today.
