HIP-S-000236-2046 The Propylaea, the Acropolis, Athens, Greece, 437-432 BC. A propylaea is an Ancient Greek monumental gateway. The one on the Acropolis was begun in 437 BC during the rebuilding of the Acropolis after the sack of Athens by the Persians in 480 BC. It was eventually completed between 421 and 415 BC after work was stopped in 431 BC when the Peloponnesian War broke out.
