The Longmen cave-temple complex which extends for about 1000m along the Yi River. There are 1352 grottoes, over 750 niches and about 40 pagodas of various sizes.  They contain more than 100,000 Buddhist images.  Work on the caves began in about AD 494 and continued into the Tang period.  Country of Origin: China. Culture: Buddhist. Place of Origin: near Luoyang, Henan province.
