GBB-F-007174-0000 1789 ca, USA: The french politician JACQUES NECKER (1732 1804). Sculpture by Louis- Simon Boizot gived in 1790 by Charles Hector Comte d'Estaing, commander of the first French fleet to assist the Americans during the Revolution, to president George Washington (today at Mount Vernon Collections, USA). Was a Swiss banker who became a French statesman and finance minister for Louis XVI. He held the finance post during the period 1777-1781 and helped make decisions that were critical in creating political and social conditions that contributed to the outbreak of the French Revolution in 1789. His elder brother was the mathematician Louis Necker (1730 -1804).
