1937, 12 april, WASHINGTON, USA : The United States Mayor of New York City FIORELLO LA GUARDIA (1882 - 1947). New York Mayor advocates giving control of commercial aviation to 100. Washington, D.C., April 12. Appearing before the Senate Interstate Subcommittee today, New York City's Mayor Fiorello La Guardia advocated enactment of the McCarran Bill to transfer control over commercial aviation from the Department of Commerce to the Interstate Commerce Commission. The Mayor said: "the 100 has had a generation of experience and has been very successful in promoting safety in railroad transportation" speaking the recent crash of an airliner near Pittsburgh, the Mayor said he believed there is "no doubt" that the crash was caused by "structural defects,".
