1960, august, USA: The american inventor and businessman Doctor CHARLES A. ESCOFFERY driving in his prototype of the car solar powered, a 1912 Baker Electric Model, gets its energy from the solar panel on top of the car's roof. Charles Escoffery was born in Managua, Nicaragua, and graduated from Acadia with a B.Sc. degree in 1937. After completing graduate work at M.I.T., he worked in industry in the United States in what would now be called Materials Science. Among his industrial positions, he served as Director of Research and Development for the selenium division of the Federal Telephone and Radio Corporation, Senior Chemist for the International Rectifier Corporation, and Senior Manager, materials and process engineering, for the Hughes Aircraft Corporation.
