1900 ca, GREAT BRITAIN: Herbert John Gladstone, 1st Viscount Gladstone (1854 1930) was a British Liberal statesman. The youngest son of William Ewart Gladstone, he was Home Secretary from 1905 to 1910 and Governor-General of the Union of South Africa from 1910 to 1914. Sir William Ewart Gladstone (1809 1898) was a British Liberal statesman. In a career lasting over sixty years, he served as Prime Minister four separate times more than any other person. Gladstone was also Britain's oldest Prime Minister, 84 years old when he resigned for the last time. He had also served as Chancellor of the Exchequer four times (18531855, 18591866, 18731874, and 18801882).
