1913, Roma, ITALY : The celebrated VENUS OF CYRENE, LIBYA. In 1913 an Italian archaeological mission unearthed the so-called Venus at Cyrene Anadyomene second-century copy of the lost Aphrodite of Cnidus by Praxiteles. His discovery made it possible to further excavations that unearthed the sanctuary of Apollo. The work was transferred to Italy to be preserved in the National Roman Museum in Rome until August 30, 2008, date on which the prime minister Silvio Berlusconi handed the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi to sculpture.
