1909, 3 april, NEW YORK, USA : BIG MARATHON RACE. In order (from the 1th): DORANDO PIETRI (Italy), HENRI St. YVES (France), SHRUBB (Great Britain) and the native american indian TOM LONGBOAT (Canada). The italian marathon man DORANDO PIETRI (PETRI, 1885 - 1942). Pietri during the 1908 Olimpics games in London was helped by the man with the megaphone and this earned him the disqualification. With this episode Petri touched five continents and touched the title of Hero of the First Modern Olympics with a special prize. The french runner HENRI ST. YVES, won this Big Marathon in NEW YORK. During the trip to the United States in 1909 Pietri took part in 22 races, with distances varying from 10 miles to the marathon, and won 17. Among the athletes faced there was also Tom Longboat, the strongest on the North American marathon.
