1864 ca, Paris, FRANCE : The french classical ballerina dancer Marie VERNON (born Marie-Eugénie Renom in 1846). . Marie Vernon, Theophile Gautier 's goddaughter, was a pupil of Louis F. Gosselin, Marie Taglioni and Mme Dominque in the Opera's ballet school. She made her debut in 1862, when she signed her contract. Perhaps most notably she took on the part of Fanella in La Muette de Portici, in the wake of dancer Emma Livry's tragic death from burns sustained in a stage fire. Mlle Vernon first danced Fanella on January 19, 1863. Aged 19 years old, married in 1865 Adolphe Gaiffe (1830 - 1903), rich journalist and Repubblican politician friend of Victor Hugo, Giuseppe Garibaldi, the Goncourt brothers and Nino and Olivier Bixio, owner of castle Château d'Oron (Switzerland) and retired from the scenes. The couple have 3 sons: Jean, Daniel and Louise.
