1840 ca, Great Britain: The italian explorer SEBASTIAN CABOT (1474 ca 1557). He was the son of Italian explorer John Cabot (Giovanni Caboto, 1450 ca 1500 ca) and his Venetian wife Mattea. After his father's death, Cabot conducted his own voyages of discovery, seeking the Northwest Passage through North America for England.
