1944, USA: The american Marine biologist and zoologist RACHEL Louise CARSON (1907-1964) as an employee of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Her 1963 book, SILENT SPRING raised concerns about environmental hazard of synthetic pesticides, including DDT. Her first book was THE SEA AROUND US in 1951. The book was a best seller and won the 1952 National Book Award for Nonfiction. Carson sold the rights for a film version was filmed which won the 1953 Oscar for Best Documentary
