His most famous operas included FRA DIAVOLO (1830) and MASANIELLO OU LA MUETTE DE PORTICI (1828), wich caused revolutionary riots when performed in Bruxelles in 1830 thanks to its theme of revolt and freedom. His comic operas, such as LE CHEVAL DE BRONZE (1835), LE DOMINO NOIR (1837) and MANON LESCAUT (1856), helped establish the french style of Operetta
