1773, FRANCE: The unknowna child of 10 to 12 years Joseph, deaf and dumb, found on the way to Péronne (Cuvilly, Oise, northern France) 1st August 1773 claiming the names and qualities of Count de Solar. Portrait engraved by artist Jean-Francois Janinet (1752-1814). The young unknown was gathered in 1774 by the Abbé de lÉpée who took charge of his education. After research, he is persuaded to have established the identity of his protégé: it would be Joseph de Solar. Officially, Joseph died of smallpox near Toulouse on January 28, 1774. His mother, the widow of Solar, had entrusted him to Cazeaux, a law student, to take him to a famous doctor, to the waters of Bagnères- De-Bigorre. For justice, there is no doubt that the countess (who had since died) would have asked Cazeaux to make her son disappear. Cazeaux is arrested and claims his innocence. Elie de Beaumont, a well-known lawyer, was convinced of the miscarriage of justice. He asks Guillaume Tronson du Coudray to take charge of his defense. Despite the personality of the opposing party, the young lawyer, whose first major affair, succeeded brilliantly in causing Cazeaux to delivery, and the natural death of the Earl of Solar was confirmed.
