1490, FRANCE: The King CHARLES VIII of FRANCE (called the Affable, l'Affable, 1470 1498), was the last monarch of the House of Valois. Portrait engravede, XIX century. He succeeded his father Louis XI at the age of 13. His elder sister Anne of France acted as regent jointly with her husband Peter II Duke of Bourbon until 1491. Son of King Louis XI the Prudent (1423 1483) by his second wife Charlotte of Savoy (1441 1483). Married with Anne Duchess of Brittany (1477-1514), the couple haved 7 sons. Since his children predeceased him Charles VIII was the last of the elder branch of the House of Valois. Upon his death, the throne passed to his father's second cousin the Duke of Orléans who reigned as King Louis XII (1462 1515)
