1835 ca, GREAT BRITAIN: The british Thomas Addison (1793 1860), renowned great physician and scientist at Guy's Hospital in London. Marble but of doctor Addison in the possession of Guy's Hospital. Among other pathologies he discovered Addison's disease (a degenerative disease of the adrenal glands) and Addisonian anemia (pernicious anemia), a hematological disorder later found to be caused by failure to absorb vitamin B12. Engraved portrait from the book by Henry Lonsdale" The Worthies of Cumberland" (London 1873).
