1953, ITALY: Cover of italian illustrated magazine LA SCIENZA ILLUSTRATA (The Illustrated Science), january 1953, dedicated to invention of Radio TRANSISTOR 8 from the english: transconductance-varistor). Invented by canadian enginer Julius Edgar Lilienfeld in 1925 but only in 1947-1948 created by the americans Walter Brattain, John Bardeen and William Shockley and won in 1956 the NOBEL PRIZE in Physics. The transistor revolutionized the field of electronics, and paved the way for smaller and cheaper radios, calculators, and computers, among other things.
