1929, ROMA, ITALY: Panoramic view of VILLA GIORGINA (Villa LEVI), Via Po n. 27, by architect Clemente Busiri Vici. Built in 1922 by the very rich jewish industrial (hower of Aurora ink-penn factory and Zanichelli edition hause) and Senatore ISAIA Abramo Giacobbe LEVI (1863-1949) with his wife Nella Coen, Georgina was the name of the only one young daughter Georgina, dead 15 years older some years before. After the proclamation of Fascist Racial Laws over italian ebrews in 1938 the Villa Georgina was leased to Count Antonio BEZZI SCALI (1898-1988), brother-in-law of Guglielmo MARCONI, and his wife Maria Luisa" Mimise" DOTTI (1904-1986) (the marriage was canceled and in 1937 Mimise fell in love with the painter Renato Guttuso, marrying him in 1950).After the attack on Via Rasella (March 23, 1943) Villa Giorgina became a center of secret assistance to soldiers, patriots and Jews, with Monsignor SERGIO PIGNEDOLI (1910-1980) as a means of relations between the partisan Resistance and the Vatican. From the villa the refugees were secretly transported to convents and the Vatican territory.
