Hospitalia. The exhibition in the new entrance hall of the Scotte in Siena

On Wednesday, May 6th, the exhibition Hospitalia. From Santa Maria della Scala to the Scotte. A Journey through the Alinari Archives opened at the new entrance of the Policlinico delle Scotte hospital in Siena.

The hospital's new entrance, completely redeveloped by the Azienda Ospedaliero-universitaria Senese (AOUS), was conceived not only as an access space but also as a place dedicated to art. The exhibition, promoted and produced by AOUS and curated by Rita Scartoni of the Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia, offers a journey through the long history of care and hospitality in Siena, connecting different places and times through the photographic heritage of the Alinari Archives.

Through a selection of historical photographs, the exhibition highlights the common thread linking the Santa Maria alle Scotte Hospital to its ancient origins. The images guide visitors through a series of thematic sections: from the Santa Maria della Scala complex in the heart of the city, to the Sala del Pellegrinaio with its extraordinary fresco cycle, through to an ideal passage toward the Ospedale delle Scotte — a symbol of the continuity of this tradition into the present day.

Hospitalia serves as the permanent exhibition of the Galleria Le Scotte. Over time, it will be complemented by additional temporary exhibitions, with the aim of making the space a dynamic venue open to dialogue between art, history, and contemporary life.

The exhibition, also enriched with audio features, is available through the free Bloomberg Connects digital guide.
