NOTIZIE DAGLI ARCHIVI is back with four events in Florence. Join us to hear from the protagonists of the latest discoveries and to learn about the results of the latest studies, research and restoration work on collections and archives. We will also announce important acquisitions that have enriched the heritage of the Fondazione Alinari.
The events will take place at 5:30 pm at Villa Fabbricotti in Florence (via Vittorio Emanuele II, 64) and are free of charge.
➡ Thursday, October 2nd
During a meeting dedicated to the new acquisitions that have enriched the Alinari Archives, the Fondazione Alinari will present an extraordinary photographic album recently purchased. The album contains 81 prints by renowned artists such as MacPherson and Bisson Frères. Of particular note are the 25 vintage prints dating back to the period when the Alinari brothers collaborated with the engraver Luigi Bardi (1852–1863). These prints are exceptional in terms of both their quality and state of preservation.

The Fondazione Alinari would like to share the interesting outcomes of the international conference The Impact of Italian Photographers in the Mediterranean Countries during the 19th Century, which was held at the Marubi National Museum of Photography in Shkodër, Albania, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Tirana, on 24 and 25 October 2025.
The presentations explored the significant impact of Italian photographers such as Antonio Beato, Pietro Marubbi, Ludovico Tuminiello and Elisa Zonaro. These photographers travelled throughout the Mediterranean, establishing photographic studios and creating professional practices that endured in the region. Their work played a pivotal part in shaping the area's photographic traditions, artistic sensibilities, and documentary practices.

➡ Thursday, November 13th
This meeting marks the first presentation of the restoration campaign for an extraordinary collection of 170 large glass plates, many of which are of exceptional size (known as "imperial"), exceeding one metre in length.
This unique collection mainly comprises examples produced by the Alinari brothers between 1870 and 1920.
These rare phototypes are attracting growing interest from the scientific community and enthusiasts of historical photography alike. Restoration work was carried out with the assistance of the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, involving the cleaning of all the plates and the restoration of 70 pieces. Thanks to the Tuscany Region digitization plan (PNRR), the entire collection is currently being acquired for the first time.
