Looking west from the Propylaea, the Acropolis, Athens, Greece. A propylaea is an Ancient Greek monumental gateway. The one on the Acropolis was begun in 437 BC during the rebuilding of the Acropolis after the sack of Athens by the Persians in 480 BC.
