Photographs of the city between yesterday and today Italian/English edition
The volume intends to present the evolution of the city of Florence from the end of the 19th century up to our day, passing through two particularly dramatic historic moments: the 1944 bombardments and the 1966 flood. The pictures from the Alinari Archives have captured the end-of-century atmosphere by immortalising scenes of life and picturesque places that can still be seen today. These are contrasted with the violent ones of the rubble caused by the war, and those – no less tragic – of the river of mud that overwhelmed Florence and its people. Lastly, a small but significant photographic synthesis of the Florence of today, just as it is offered to the many visitors who come and discover its incomparable beauty.
